RIK rings are characterized by high strength, dissipate piston heat into the cylinder and regulate the oil film on the cylinder surface which leads to long-term maintenance of adequate compression in the combustion chamber.

Riken was founded in 1927 to commercialize an innovative piston ring manufacturing method invented by the aforementioned research institute.
